Spring Lip Picks [Drugstore Edition]

I know, I know… Technically spring started about a month ago. But here in DC, the weather is only starting to be warm enough for skirts and sandals, so forgive me for letting my brain continue to hibernate. I love spring– it might even be my favorite season. And now that the sun is finally starting to shine, I’m switching up my lip looks: wine for watermelon and aubergine for orchid.

In my opinion, changing your lip color is the easiest way to change the overall feel of your makeup. For me, swiping on a new color is like swiping on another personality. I’ve sorted through my stash to find the lip products I expect to be reaching for most this season.

For those looking for just a touch of shine, I’ve been loving the CoverGirl Colorlicious Gloss in Give Me Guava. It’s a gorgeous nude pink with a touch of very fine gold shimmer throughout. The formula is lovely, too, and not too sticky on the lips.

The L’Oréal Glossy Balm in My Babydoll is another great option for folks who prefer more going the traditional “pastel” route for spring. This baby pink shade gives a sheer tint of color to the lips, and leaves your makeup looking fresh and springy.

If you’re looking for brighter shades– which are always my personal preference, the Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Unapologetic and NYX Butter Lipstick in Little Susie are gorgeous bright coral shades. The color of the two is nearly the same, but the Revlon formula is obviously matte.

And finally, the color I’ve been obsessing over so far: orchid. (I realize I’m about two years behind on the whole, “Color of the Year,” bandwagon, but it’s just so pretty!) It’s been a struggle not to grab every orchid colored lipstick I see in the drugstore. So far, my favorites in this shade are Maybelline ColorSensational Rebel Bloom Lipstick in Orchid Ecstasy and Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick in Orchid. I’ve found the Maybelline formula to be a bit more sheer than some other lipsticks in the ColorSensational line, but I love the overall effect. And if you want bright, pigmented color? You can’t go wrong with the Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick formulas.

What are you most looking forward to for the springtime? Do you already have a favorite makeup product of the season?

Thanks again for reading! I’ll talk to you all soon!

P.S. This weekend is the big move! Wish me luck…
