I’m Back! (With a Haul…)

Hi everyone! Sorry to leave you hanging! I realize I haven’t been blogging much lately, and I apologize for falling off the face of the earth.

As many of you know, my fiancé, Dave, and I moved into a new apartment in April. During all of the chaos that comes with moving into a new place, Dave was working 70+ hour weeks and traveling a lot, so the two of us didn’t have much time to enjoy the “moving in together experience.” During that time, I wanted to put a lot of effort into my blog, but it just wasn’t coming naturally. I was either exhausted from unpacking, or trying to enjoy the little time I had with Dave, and blogging began to feel like a chore. So I decided to take a breather and come up for air.

Now, after nearly a month off, I’m feeling refreshed, inspired, and ready to put my nose to the grindstone again. A lot has happened in the last few weeks. I got my first promotion at work, I’ve begun studying for the GRE, and Dave and I have been in full-blown wedding planning mode. (When I got engaged, I promise myself that I wouldn’t let myself be totally consumed by wedding planning, but man– it’s tougher than I thought. And it’s actually been kind of fun.)

Speaking of wedding-related things, it’s become my latest excuse for splurging on makeup. (“Oh, wouldn’t this be a great lip color for the wedding?”) I’ve actually been pretty good recently, but this past week I decided a little splurge was in order. As usual, I wanted to take a moment to share my new finds with you.

It’s taken me a long time to decide which Hourglass Modernist palette I wanted to purchase. Their packaging and design are so beautiful that I knew I wanted one for my collection. But which one? On the one hand, I own so many nude eyeshadow palettes. But on the other, if I’m going to spend $58 on an eyeshadow palette, I want to get some use out of it. I ultimately settled on the “earth tones” Obscura palette because it contains two shimmery mid-tone shades, two darker matte colors, and one pearly highlight. It seemed like the most versatile option. I also picked up the Ambient Lighting Bronzer and one of the Ambient Lighting Blushes. Mood Exposure looked like one of the more boring blushes in the pan, but it’s gorgeous on the cheeks. It’s also different than a lot of the blush colors I typically gravitate toward.

When I first saw the Naked Smoky palette, I wasn’t wowed. While I gravitate toward nude palettes, this one seemed like a lot of the others in my collection. But when I saw it in person, I felt like it combined a lot of the things I liked about Naked 1 and Naked 2. It contained a nice mix of warm and cool colors with several matte options. And that purple shade is a great pop of color. What can I say? I caved. I have all the other Naked Palettes, what’s one more? I’ll likely regret this purchase later.

For what it’s worth, the packaging on this one is far and above my favorite of the Naked Palettes so far.

I’ve been on a bit of a lip product binge lately. In addition to the OCC Lip Tar set you see in the top photo, I picked up five new lipsticks. Whoops… (#SorryNotSorry)

I’m a little disappointed by MAC’s Ruby Woo. I know it’s a cult classic, but I’m not wowed. I’d read enough reviews to know that the formula is particularly drying, so I was prepared for that. But the product is so difficult to apply! It’s also a little lighter than I tend to prefer in a red lipstick. As an avid collector of red lipsticks, I’m glad I added it to my collection, but I don’t think it will become my favorite. However, major bonus: it lasts forever! Even though the formula isn’t the most comfortable in the world, it doesn’t budge.

I also finally got my hands on the Chanel Rouge Allure lipstick in Rayonette that I’ve been lusting after for months. It’s the perfect pinky purple shade to last me the rest of the summer and into the fall.

And finally, my favorite purchase of this entire haul– the Marc Jacobs New Nudes Sheer Lip Gel in Eat Cake. This is the most beautiful pinky nude lipstick on the face of the earth. My natural lip color is a little darker than most people’s so I have a hard time finding a nude lipstick that doesn’t make me look ill. This one is gorgeous and so comfortable on the lips. I’m strongly contemplating making this one my wedding lipstick. Love, love, love.

Sorry again for being gone for so long, but I’m happy to be back. I can’t wait to start catching up with everyone’s blogs to see what you’ve been up to. Thanks so much for sticking it out while I was gone! Let me know what you’ve been up to in the comments below!
