November Favorites

Is it December already? The final months of the year just keep flying by… At any rate, I kicked off the beginning of November with a “Wine in the Woods” trip with some friends. We rented a treehouse in Western Maryland and drove around to a bunch of vineyards. It was so much fun, and I came away with plenty of great wine! Thanksgiving was spent with Dave and my family in Wisconsin. We definitely appreciated the time off from work! Now time to crack down on grad school applications…

In terms of favorites, November was a  really fun month for beauty! I did a fair amount of experimenting and I enjoyed just about everything I tried. Here are a few of the standouts!

As soon as I opened the Tartlette in Bloom Palette, I knew it was going to be a favorite. And not just a “November favorite”—an all time favorite. It’s probably too early for me to consider this item one of my “holy grail” palettes, but it’s darn close. If you saw my recent review, you’ll know how impressed I was by the shadows’ quality and pigmentation, the color selection, and the wearability of of the shades. I even feel a little guilty… I also splurged on the Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette this month, but I haven’t gotten nearly as much use out of it. I think I’m a shimmery eyeshadow girl at heart. (For the record, the Kat Von D palette is absolutely lovely, as well!)

Ever have a product that you just don’t get along with? That’s how I felt about the Guerlain Meteorites Baby Glow Sheer Liquid Foundation at first. Silly me, wanting to wear a “radiant” foundation BB cream during the summer. For whatever reason, I brought it with me on my recent trip to Wisconsin, and I’m so glad I did! It’s a great lightweight product for the fall/winter months when my skin is a bit drier. I wear the shade 02 Clair/Light, and it just livens up my face and makes me look more well-rested. It has a very sheer coverage, and reminds me of a BB cream in a lot of ways. My only gripe with it is that it is very heavily fragranced with the violet scent that Guerlain products are known for. The smell fades after a bit, but it’s always a bit of a shock first thing in the morning.

I recently ran out of my beloved Benefit Gimme Brow. After three tubes, I decided it was time to try something different. I opted for the Anastasia Beverly Hills Tinted Brow Gel in Chocolate, and I’ve been really impressed! I don’t really struggle with unruly eyebrows, but I like the textured effect this gel offers when used over the top of a brow pencil or brow powder. If you’re looking to check it out yourself, I recommend reviewing swatches first. I initially bought the shade “Brunette,” but it was far too light.

Similarly, I decided to switch up my face serum this month. As much as I loved the Ole Henriksen Vitamin C Truth Serum I’d been using since April, it wasn’t quite sitting right under my foundation. I decided to try the Clinique Smart Custom-Repair Serum, and I’m so glad I did! This serum isn’t particularly moisturizing (not something I need at the moment) but it has done wonders to brighten up my skin! This, combined with the Guerlain foundation above, is like eight hours of sleep in a bottle!

I seem to be on an Hourglass kick lately. Last month, I talked about one of their Ambient Lighting Powders in my favorites, and this month, I’m coming at you with the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Mood Exposure. Words don’t do this beautiful blush justice. It’s a gorgeous, soft plum shade that gives my face the most natural, radiant, “Oh, I just stepped in from the cold!” flush. It contains  just the right level of shimmer, and can be left sheer or built up to a stronger wash of color.

I’m a chapstick addict. My all-time favorite is the Nivea “A Kiss of Milk and Honey” Lip Balm, but it’s difficult to find. I’ve tried just about every version Nivea has to offer, but I realized I’d never tried their original “A Kiss of Moisture” Essential Lip Care. I got desperate, and picked up a two-pack before a camping trip. Guys—this stuff is good! It’s so moisturizing. (It even rivals my far-too-expensive Nuxe Reve de Miel Ultra Nourishing Lip Balm!) I still prefer the Milk and Honey version (it’s not quite as thick, and therefore applies nicer over the top of lipsticks) but I’m happy to have found an acceptable substitute!

I have several gorgeous highlights in my collection. But even given the recent “strobing” trend, I don’t always want to look like I’ve got a sliver beam of light radiating off of my face. Sometimes I want something a bit subtler. Enter the Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder in Highlight 01. It’s a cult classic—and with good reason! Ever want to achieve the “natural” glow offered by liquid highlighters without the fuss? This gives the same “glowy but not shimmery” finish to the face. This month, I’ve been reaching for this over all of my usual highlighting staples, including The Balm’s Mary Loumanizer, Becca’s Pressed Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal, and Charlotte Tilbury’s Filmstar Bronze and Glow palette.

Last month, I gushed about the Elizabeth and James Nirvana White fragrance. I raved about how impressed I was, and how I hadn’t strayed in months. I’m still loving that perfume, but the bottle was too big for me to bring on my Thanksgiving trip. Instead, I packed this sample of the Indigo fragrance by Nest. It’s actually quite similar—a sweet floral with a hint of spice, perfect for everyday!

And finally… I’ve been rocking a lot of different lip colors this month, but I think my favorite is probably the ColourPop Lippie Stick in Baewatch. I recently wrote an in-depth review and swatched the shades in my collection, so I’ll spare you the details. This color is a gorgeous deep rose/berry shade, perfect for fall. I always get compliments when I wear it, and it’s been in my bag often that the writing is beginning to rub off the tube!

That’s probably enough for one month! As always, thanks for reading, and I look forward to catching up with you next time! Lots of love, and happy holidays!
