Lessons from my Grandfather

Today’s post has been a difficult one.

I know that I typically write about lipstick, nail polish, and other seemingly frivolous things, but today I’d like to share something a little more personal. I’m the type of person who processes through writing—even if no one reads it. I feel better once I get everything on paper.

Last week, I lost my grandfather to a short, but brutal battle with lung cancer. I just returned from another trip to Chicago, where I spent my 24th birthday attending his funeral. Despite the bittersweet circumstances, it was nice to be around family and friends—many of whom I haven’t seen for several years. Even better was realizing how many people loved and cared about my grandpa.

He and I have always been close.

Christmas Wish List

The holidays are upon us! Thanksgiving is (quite literally) right around the corner, and Christmas comes shortly after that. Apart from the cold weather, this is absolutely my favorite time of year. Obviously, my the best part of the holidays is seeing my family. I live in Washington, DC and my parents live in Wisconsin. I don’t get to go home terribly often, and so I’m always grateful to spend some time with them around the holidays. But I also love the lights, the smells, the music, the food, and the general cozy atmosphere. There’s nothing better than curling up in a warm blanket with a cup of peppermint tea and watching a Christmas movie on TV.

I also love shopping for gifts for people — there’s nothing better than finding that perfect thing you know someone will love. Oddly enough, my boyfriend tells me I’m difficult to shop for. He’s been bugging me about what I want this year, and so I thought it would be fun to create a wish list. Most of these items aren’t things I need. In fact, I really don’t need any of them. But it’s fun to dream, right?

If money weren’t an object, I’d love to see some of these items under my tree… 😉
