Hi friends! Look who’s finally written their 2015 best of beauty post! It only took a bajillion years…
Asking me to pick my favorite makeup products is like asking me to pick a favorite child—it just can’t be done. I love all of them for different reasons. (Er…most of them, anyway.) That’s why, initially, I wasn’t going to write a 2015 favorites post. January is almost over, everyone else has done it, and I worried no one would want to read it. But then, one of my friends asked me to write it, and here I am. I’ve caved. Not all of these were 2015 discoveries, but I definitely used the heck out of all of them last year! I decided to save my skincare favorites for a future post—I’m long overdo for an updated skincare routine anyhow!
Without further ado, here’s my 2015 All Star Lineup!
When you’re constantly testing out new makeup products like I am, you don’t use up very many of them. I definitely suffer from beauty ADD. I’ll love a product one minute, but the next time something shiny and new enters my collection, it often loses its luster.
That being said, it’s a big deal when I repurchase a makeup product. It means that 1) I’ve actually used it enough to go through it! That means that more often than not, I’m reaching for it over the other products in my makeup drawers. And 2) Despite the fact that I own other products that can do the job, I just can’t live without this item in my collection. These items are that good.
One of the great things about eyeshadow palettes is that there’s something out there for everyone. Whether you prefer subtle mattes or bold shimmers, classic neutrals or bold colors, there’s a palette to suit your needs. Personally, I prefer palettes that are predominantly neutral, with strategic pops of color. And while I usually opt for shimmery shades, I feel that a few basic matte shades are key for most eyeshadow looks.
A few years ago, a “Perfect Palette Tag” was circulating YouTube. Even though I don’t have a YouTube channel of my own, I thought that recreating the tag for my blog would be a fun way to share some of my favorite eyeshadow palettes with you!
It’s been a while since I’ve written a “Favorites” post, but it feels good to be back in business. These picks were a tough, as I’ve been wearing very little makeup the past few months. My beauty routine has been pretty minimal (I blame it on the God-awful DC humidity, but it’s mostly just laziness) but there are the handful of products I wanted to talk about.
Hi everyone! Sorry to leave you hanging! I realize I haven’t been blogging much lately, and I apologize for falling off the face of the earth.
As many of you know, my fiancé, Dave, and I moved into a new apartment in April. During all of the chaos that comes with moving into a new place, Dave was working 70+ hour weeks and traveling a lot, so the two of us didn’t have much time to enjoy the “moving in together experience.” During that time, I wanted to put a lot of effort into my blog, but it just wasn’t coming naturally. I was either exhausted from unpacking, or trying to enjoy the little time I had with Dave, and blogging began to feel like a chore. So I decided to take a breather and come up for air.
Now, after nearly a month off, I’m feeling refreshed, inspired, and ready to put my nose to the grindstone again. A lot has happened in the last few weeks. I got my first promotion at work, I’ve begun studying for the GRE, and Dave and I have been in full-blown wedding planning mode. (When I got engaged, I promise myself that I wouldn’t let myself be totally consumed by wedding planning, but man– it’s tougher than I thought. And it’s actually been kind of fun.)
Speaking of wedding-related things, it’s become my latest excuse for splurging on makeup. (“Oh, wouldn’t this be a great lip color for the wedding?”) I’ve actually been pretty good recently, but this past week I decided a little splurge was in order. As usual, I wanted to take a moment to share my new finds with you.
Last night, Dave and I went out to dinner and to see the new Cinderella movie as a sort of belated birthday celebration. My real birthday was last week, but I spent it at my grandfather’s funeral and I didn’t much feel like celebrating. Deciding it was time to stop moping around my apartment, I used the date as an excuse to get dolled up.
The two of us headed to Pacci’s, a local pizza restaurant that I love. They cook their pizzas in a wood-burning oven, and there’s something about the crust that’s extra delicious. I ordered a pizza topped with buffalo mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, basil and parmesan. We decided to skip dessert, but I was certainly tempted since the restaurant has a wall of Nutella at the entrance.
